APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: 26 May 2021
The Human Technopole (HT) is seeking a senior-developer and manager of the Software and Web Development Core team, supporting the scientific software design, production, deployment and maintenance needs of the Institute and focusing on web servicing efforts.
The team will host two additional software/web-developers and it will be responsible for the implementation of (re-)usable tools and computational modules on demand, supporting HT research groups and collaborators in translating prototypic applications into robust software suites, in order to make internal methods and curated resources available to the bioinformatics community at large.
The hired candidate will supervise the development of applications that are scalable, modular and reusable, cloud-enabled, and making use of a growing set of self-contained online and offline frontend modules. They will coordinate a facility enabling internal and external users to operate, query, or mine HT resources and analysis services. Furthermore, the team will provide DevOps and other solutions to automate metadata gathering (e.g. from electronic lab books), and experimental data, across HT centres and research groups to create unified, curated databases.
The successful candidate will have advanced software engineering skills, with extensive experience as a software architect. Solid foundations of full-stack web development, IT infrastructures, data-science and database systems design and management are required for this multidisciplinary role. As a chief technical figure, the candidate should also feel comfortable with taking autonomous decisions on technologies, languages and the overall production stack. Great communication skills and an academic background are a definite plus to facilitate interactions with data scientists, biologists, and researchers who constitute the target audience of the software which the selected candidate will build.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity or basic knowledge of biology, genetics, cancer therapeutics, drug discovery and previous experience working in industry.
Past experience with genomic data curation and familiarity with the management of data from large-scale patient genomics databases and in-vitro drug/functional-genomic screens will be positively considered.
