Senior Hardware Engineer
Arm
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Job Overview:
Would you like to help craft Arm's next generation of hardware platforms and solutions?
We seek an experienced system-level, hardware architect to join Arm's Hardware Platform team. You will work with the wider business, collaborating with the SoC teams, architects and platform leads to help define, influence, align and agree technical requirements and features for implementation. Assess design trade-offs to develop the most optimal solution for our customers and development partners.
The team works at the forefront of embedded compute, focusing on prototyping Arm's latest IP products, to build physical hardware development platforms based around custom Arm SoC and FPGA implementations. These are used for software development and validation activities for both external partners/customers and internal development teams. We work alongside many other teams including Software, SoC Implementation, Packaging, Characterisation and Verification.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with technical leads, product managers and SoC development teams to translate technology requirements into platform architectures;
- Work proactively across Arm’s architecture and core technology groups, taking ownership over the full product lifecycle;
- Evaluate different architecture proposals and features and coordinate across Silicon Architects, hardware, software and platforms to align all parties to a common vision, supporting the needs of Arm based embedded device SoCs;
- Be central to the involvement in new activities across different projects as required as we are involved in a broad cross-section of engineering across the project lifecycle;
- Create high level architecture specifications to enable engineering teams to craft and verify platforms addressing the embedded compute, infrastructure and IoT market segments;
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and credibly across audiences ranging from individual hardware and software engineers to architecture peers and technology leads.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or related field;
- Deep technical background and solid understanding of SoC architectures and platforms involving embedded compute, CPUs, IoT, AI or related work experience;
- Experience with various high-speed IO interface standards (e.g. PCIe Gen5/6, LPDDR5/6, CSI, DSI) and peripherals for embedded storage and compute;
- Competence with embedded system board design, designing with complex LSI devices such as FPGAs and embedded firmware and power management ICs (PMICs);
- Experience of EDA tools for schematic entry, PCB layout from a board-design perspective (Cadence OrCAD CIS, Allegro PCB suite);
- Extensive knowledge of PCB stack-up definition, controlled impedance routing guidelines for complex stack-ups and topologies;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams. Collaborative and influential across organisations and geographies;
- Ability to drive progress in an ambiguous environment with evolving needs;
- Ability to work optimally in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and requirements.
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
- Fundamental understanding of compute architectures and functional building blocks;
- Experience working within the semi-conductor industry.
