Backend Software Engineer

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our tech team. In this crucial role, you will focus on expanding and enhancing our API, using a robust stack that includes FastAPI, Django, Python, and PostgreSQL, all within a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. Next to that, you will need to leverage best practices in automating, streamlining and managing the development, deployment and operation of our software systems to ensure efficiency, scalability and reliability.

Responsibilities:

Developing scalable and efficient backend solutions ensuring seamless integration with our front-end systems;
Contributing to the continuous improvement of our platform’s performance and reliability;
Set up code and deployment standards so we can guarantee the quality of delivery;
Writing efficient queries to fetch, update and delete data;
Optimizing database performance and ensuring data integrity;
Implementing design patterns and best practices for modularity and efficiency.

This role reports to the Tech team lead and is located in Nevele.

Most important required experience & competences:

Technical Experience

Proficiency in Python;
Expertise in Django and FastAPI is required;
Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL;
Skilled in designing and maintaining REST APIs;
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP);
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes and version control (Git).

Professional experience

8+ years of back-end development, including leading large-scale systems;
Proven ability to work in a cross-functional team and deliver scalable, high-performance applications.

Software Design and Architecture

Expertise in scalable architectures, microservices and distributed systems;
Knowledge of design patterns and refactoring legacy systems.

Testing and Quality Assurance

Experience with automated testing frameworks (PyTest, Playwright);
Familiarity with TDD or BDD approaches.

Leadership and Collaboration

Ability to mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews;
Strong communication skills to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Educational background

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software engineering or equivalent experience;
Certifications in Google Cloud Platform, Django/FastAPI, PostgreSQL or Python are a plus.
