Senior Robotics & Software Engineer

Senior Robotics & Software Engineer

R3 Robotics

Luxembourg or Karlsruhe

Your responsibilities

Design and implement control algorithms and tools for smart disassembly automation, both proof-of-concepts and prototypes for experiments and production quality code for use in the customer-facing solution. Some tasks you will be working on include:

  • Task and path planning for a 6 DoF robot, 2 DoF loading station, bespoke end-effectors in a complex scene with many collisions;
  • Maintaining a precise digital twin simulation and implementing a calibration procedure to ensure simulation is in line with reality;
  • Implementation of closed-loop control algorithms in collaboration with our Perception team;
  • Work with different robots and IPCs of various brands and implement scalable hardware-agnostic methods;
  • When prototypes show feasibility, plan and execute the implementation with guaranteed quality – implementing the tests and documentation for reproducibility and reliability;
  • Navigate the trade-offs between tech complexity and getting things to work;
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, ensuring seamless integration between hardware and software components;
  • Coordinate with suppliers and third-party collaborators;
  • Ensure software engineering best practices in the team, mentoring more junior members and grow into a leadership position;
  • Perform root cause analysis and demonstrate the necessary debugging skills when required;
  • Take ownership of your tasks end-to-end, collect necessary data, set up hardware experiments, test and integrate until the finished product.

Your profile

  • 5 years of experience in a similar field, including 3+ years' experience of developing production-grade robotics software in Python, C++, Rust or similar languages;
  • Master's degree in computer science or another STEM field;
  • Solid understanding of the modern industrial automation and robotics stack – you know how to set up a ROS environment and are not afraid of PLC programming if necessary;
  • Strong mathematical background, linear algebra, and vector operations are a must. You need to know what a quaternion is. Ideally you have some experience with vision systems, but it is not a requirement;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, verbal and written communication in English;
  • Ability to work under pressure while juggling multiple tasks and adhering to tight deadlines.
