Position Overview

As Director of Software Engineering, you will lead the Software Delivery Manager layer in Sofia and be accountable for the performance, development, and delivery effectiveness of multiple engineering teams. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, and global technology leaders to ensure teams are focused, empowered, and delivering high-quality outcomes.

• Lead, coach, and develop Software Delivery Managers and their teams;
• Set clear expectations for engineering delivery, quality, communication, and accountability;
• Partner with Product and Architecture to align priorities, manage risks, and support delivery commitments;
• Act as a senior escalation point for delivery challenges, dependencies, and organisational blockers;
• Promote practical adoption of AI tools and modern engineering practices across teams;
• Represent Sofia Engineering in senior stakeholder discussions and translate strategy into clear execution.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a senior engineering leader with strong people leadership, solid technical credibility, and a practical interest in AI-enabled engineering. You should be confident leading experienced managers, setting high standards, and influencing senior stakeholders in a product-led technology environment.

• Proven experience leading engineering managers and multiple software engineering teams;
• Strong track record of building accountable, high-performing engineering organisations;
• Clear, direct, and constructive communication style, with the ability to influence at senior level;
• Hands-on software engineering background and ability to discuss architecture, quality, and technical trade-offs;
• Genuine interest in AI tools and modern engineering practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience across software engineering and engineering management;
• At least 3 years in a senior engineering leadership role, including direct management of engineering managers;
• Experience in a product-led SaaS or cloud-based software environment is strongly preferred;
• Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, delivery models, and quality standards;
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.
