The mission:

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Front-End Chapter Lead. Our tribe is part of Financial Markets & Group Treasury, responsible for delivering IT solutions for trading, risk analysis, and hedging. As a Chapter Lead, you have two main responsibilities; leading your chapter and contributing software development in your squad as a senior engineer.

Your chapter members are Front-End engineers spanning multiple teams. You are responsible for managing, coaching, and inspiring your chapter members. Your main task is to enable your engineers to grow their mastery and improve themselves every day. The other half of your time, you will be leading by example. You will determine strategy, drive innovation, and deliver in a squad.

The squad you will be working responsible for delivery of our next generation ING Pricing Portal and consists of 8 developers and a UX designer. The portal enables our internal clients (risk managers and traders) to calculate financial risk metrics, do risk simulations and manage trades. The Web Components-based Portal is a long-term strategic solution and a success factor in the Financial Markets digitization and acceleration program.

We expect you to be responsible and take ownership together with your colleagues in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Bucharest. Be open, honest, proactive, and communicate clearly.

What you'll bring to the team:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience;
  • +6 years of experience as a Front-end engineer;
  • Strong knowledge of Javascript, HTML and CSS;
  • Experience with at least one of the Javascript frameworks/libraries such as Lit, React, Vue;
  • Experience with at least one of the general purpose programming langugaes such as Java, Python, C# etc.;
  • Experience with testing technologies and tools like Karma, Cucumber, WebdriverIO, Chai etc.;
  • Experience with building tools such as Webpack, Rollup, Vite etc.;
  • Strong understanding of CI & CD;
  • Experience with Git;
  • Experience with package managers such as NPM, Yarn;
  • Strong people management skills;
  • Leadership experience;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Web Components;
  • Experience with Micro Front-end architecture;
  • Experience with Component Driven Development;
  • Good understanding of browsers' native Web APIs especially Websockets, Web Workers and Web Storage APIs.

Your day to day:

As a Chapter Lead:

  • Coach your chapter members to grow and unlock their potential;
  • Organize Chapter Times to stretch in both soft and tech skills together with your chapter;
  • Inspire your chapter members to set their target;
  • Plan 1-1s to support your chapter members in their career path.

As a Senior Front-end Engineer:

  • Contribute to Micro Front End journey of the portal application;
  • Collaborate with your team members on the long-term strategy for the team and the portal application; continuously improve the user experience while also reducing the time-to-market;
  • Contribute to designing, prototyping, and developing complex interactive web interfaces;
  • Develop and promote reusable UI components to be utilized by other ING teams (not only in Financial Markets);
  • Help back-end developers to come up with good REST APIs;
  • Stimulate sharing of knowledge and good practices of front-end development within the team.
