CGI is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of ground systems for spacecraft monitoring and control and data processing. We are seeking talented junior and experienced engineers to further strengthen our team and help us deliver some of the most exciting and complex Ground Segment applications systems in Europe. Our team is based in Darmstadt, Germany, cooperating with other teams in locations across Germany and multiple European countries.

Mission Operations Preparation Tools are used by spacecraft operations teams to prepare their daily activities. These tools include spacecraft flight operation procedure editors and spacecraft database editors. The Systems Engineer for Mission Operations Preparation Tools will drive the maintenance and evolution of mission operations preparation tools at a large international organization.

Your responsibilities

  • Establish ownership of the operations preparation tools maintenance activities;
  • Develop an understanding of the operations preparation tools currently in use;
  • Develop an understanding of how the operations teams use these tools, what problems they face and which improvements can be made;
  • Drive the evolution of the current operations preparation tools in order to extend them to support additional spacecraft;
  • Drive the design and implementation of new systems for operations preparation for new missions;
  • Manage relationships with suppliers providing operations preparation tools;
  • Provide first line support to end users of operations preparation tools and interface with external contractors providing maintenance of the tools;
  • Perform system engineering tasks including requirements engineering, architectural design and verification of operations preparation tools;
  • Plan and organize activities taking into account multiple teams and constraints.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field;
  • At least two years of experience in engineering activities in the space domain;
  • Basic understanding of spacecraft operations preparations activities;
  • Ability to understand complex systems without getting lost in small details;
  • Good amount of curiosity in wanting to understand how the operations teams use these tools and how these tools could evolve;
  • Good communication skills in order to interface with many other teams as well as external contractors;
  • Good organization skills in order to cope with complexity and changing requirements;
  • Good planning skills in order to understand the activities and constraints of other teams;
  • Creative problem solving attitude in order to cope with unexpected and new situations;
  • Availability to work onsite in Darmstadt at least 80% of the time;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team working ability;
  • Fluency in English.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working onsite at a large international organization in the Space sector;
  • Knowledge of systems engineering concepts;
  • Experience with MOIS, DABYS and OPEN-M;
  • Experience in basic tasks of Linux and Windows system administration.
