DevOps Engineer

ING Group

Bucharest, Romania

Your day-to-day

You will be part of a young, dynamic team of individuals with many different skills and backgrounds. As a DevOps engineer, your days will never be boring. Our responsibilities span many different areas and in the course of a few weeks you may be involved in multiple activities.

You will learn many new tools as part of your job and we don't expect you to know all of them before you join.

Here is a brief overview of the main ones that we use as part of our day-to-day job:

  • Git as our versioning control system.
  • Grafana is our tool of choice for monitoring infra · UAC - Universal Automation Center for scheduling ETL jobs on our Data Warehouse and automating OS patching
  • ETL, a critical part of any data warehouse, is handled via IBM Datastage.
  • Confluence stores all our documentation
  • We embrace Agile methodology and use Azure Boards to plan and track our work
  • The main distro we use is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (RHEL), but we also have to dive into Windows Server land
  • Big data requires big databases, and Oracle Database is our technology of choice
  • We use ING Private Cloud (IPC) platform to order, build and manage our infra.

What you bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Experience with bash scripting and administering Linux systems;
  • Be organised, focused, able to work under pressure responding to critical incidents calmly.
  • Understand that most projects have deadlines and are thus able to work towards meeting them effectively.
  • Be a team player and understand that the whole is more than just the sum of its parts. At ING we work together towards a common goal.
  • Learn from your mistakes and be proactive in growing personally and professionally. The IT landscape is constantly changing, so be prepared to adapt.

Nice to have

  • Azure Devops or any other CI/CD pipelining tool, familiarity with Ansible
  • Experience as a Developer, writing production code (regardless of language / technology / framework). The more you know how developers think, the better you can assist them from a DevOps position. We have some Python code to maintain
  • SQL knowledge
  • Creating ETL jobs in DataStage is hard! Debugging them is even more challenging. If you've ever worked with DataStage or any related components from the InfoSphere Information Server suite, we'd love to hear from you.
