Role Overview

  • Research and develop solutions for the measurement of gas flow, utilizing hardware engineering, embedded software development and applied science skills;
  • Investigate and improve performance capabilities of new and existing products;
  • Provide expert technical advice to wider functions within L+G.

Responsibilities

  • As an experienced development engineer with substantial hardware and firmware development experience, you will work within a multidisciplined team and provide gas flow measurement system development expertise;
  • You must be able to read and understand regulatory compliance and customer requirements:
    • Identify critical performance parameters;
    • Evaluate existing designs to determine if they meet those requirements;
    • Translate the requirements into specific design targets for other development teams;
    • Make recommendations as to which solutions proposed, best meets the needs of the project.
  • You will identify, research, and develop improved methods of measuring the flow of gases, providing definitions of measurement system architectures to the wider R&D team;
  • You may be required to identify and liaise with external test houses or research service providers, where L+G don’t have internal capabilities;
  • You will design, prototype and evaluate functional blocks required to implement the product measurement functions;
  • Review product test results, against product requirements, identify non-compliances and propose solutions;
  • Record and report findings, including writing detailed technical reports for consumption by technical and nontechnical readers;
  • Support and guide the hardware development team members during product development, with hands on hardware development where necessary;
  • Support and guide the measurement firmware development team, providing effective code reviews, and hands on firmware development when necessary;
  • Work directly with NPI teams, to specify how products should be calibrated and tested for volume manufacturing;
  • Assist the quality department with product non-compliance investigations, applying knowledge of hardware, software, material science and learned product knowledge.

Person Specification/Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or similar in Electronic EngineeringPhysics;
  • Recent experience developing low powered electronic measurement systemsdevices;
  • Embedded C software development experience, Linux environment also desirable;
  • Good, applied science knowledge base including Physics;
  • Good statistical data analysis capabilities, with experience of standard statistical analysis tools (e.g. Minitab);
  • Self-driven and highly innovative;
  • Working knowledge of project planning/control methods e.g. Gantt charts;
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator;
  • Experience with Ultrasonic measurement techniques;
  • Experience of gas flow measurement techniques;
  • Experience of design for high volume product manufacture;
  • Experience with MatlabMathcad;
  • Experience with COMSOL or other FEA Simulation Tools;
  • Understanding of SQL;
  • Able to work to high standards of quality and precision;
  • Be computer literate in Microsoft Word and Excel to an intermediate level;
  • Possess a good standard of both written and spoken English;
  • An ability to work within a team, with minimal supervision.
